(Reuters) - California police said that an elderly shooter went on a killing spree in a dance hall near Los Angeles, killing 11, as they continued to look for the motive behind one of the bloodiest mass shootings the state had ever seen.

According to Alan Reyes, a spokesman for the Hemet Police Department, officers from Hemet, roughly 80 miles east of Los Angeles, were helping the county Sheriff s Department investigate Tran s mobile home inside a gated senior living complex.
According to a statement released by Hemet police on Monday, Tran visited the agency twice in early January with charges of "previous fraud, theft, and poisoning allegations involving his family" that date back 10 to 20 years. According to the police statement, Tran had promised to come with proof of his accusations but never did.
According to internet records, Tran held a current trucking licence and had run a business called Tran s Trucking Inc with a Monterey Park post office box address.
Adam Hood, a longtime resident of the allegedly gunman s apartment building in the Los Angeles region, told Reuters that Tran was an aggressive and untrustworthy someone who had few friends. Hood reported that Tran complained about people gossiping behind his back at the Star Ballroom studio.
Twelve hours later, Tran s white cargo van was surrounded by police in Torrance, California, 20 miles to the southwest of Monterey Park. When police approached the van, they heard Tran shoot himself once inside.
Some residents of the close-knit neighbourhood of Monterey Park originally believed the shooting to be a hate crime against Asians when word of it spread. Immigration from China has always been a draw for the 60,000-person metropolis. Asians make up around 65% of its population, according to the US Census. It is a nice neighbourhood where such a catastrophe was previously inconceivable, according to the locals.
