The British leader of the opposition further said that the rights of the Kashmiri people must be respected, adding that the United Nation Security Council resolutions should also be implemented.
US says India had not informed of move
On Wednesday, acting US Assistant Secretary Alice Wells said India did not inform the US about its intention to scrap special status to occupied Kashmir.
"Contrary to press reporting, the Indian government did not consult or inform the US Government before moving to revoke occupied Kashmir s special constitutional status," the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs of the US State Department said in a tweet.
UN expresses concern over India s decision
The United Nations expressed concern over Indian government’s move to revoke the special status of Kashmir, an UN-recognized disputed territory.
The concern was expressed by U.N. Secretary-General’s Spokesman Stephane Dujarric while talking to reporters at the regular briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Dujarric said the Secretary-General has all along maintained that India and Pakistan should resolve all outstanding disputes between the two countries, including Kashmir, through dialogue.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint.
Previously, amid escalating tension in occupied Kashmir following deployment of tens of thousands of additional troops, the Indian government ended special status of the valley while scrapping articles 35A and 370 of the Constitution.
In a malicious attempt to turn Muslim majority into minority in occupied Kashmir, the Indian president has signed a four-point amendment decree in this regard.
According to details, the announcement was made by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah during his address in Rajya Sabha, upper house of Indian parliament. Shah said, “Kashmir will no longer be a state. It will be divided into two union territories – Kashmir, which will have a legislature, and Ladakh, which will be without a legislature."
He also told that the valley would be re-organized geographically.”
The revocation of the articles has allowed other non-Muslim Indian citizens to buy land in the valley while a separate legislative assembly will be established there for its own laws.
