(Web Desk) - Airline pilots see all kinds of cool stuff which we, riding in the back of the plane, will never get to. Christiaan van Heijst, a pilot, has uploaded on social media site Instagram his amazing, colourful cockpit views from his 30,000 feet (9.1km) above the Earth.

Christiaan van Heijst has flown all over the world capturing thousands of cities that pass by, shooting stars, the Milky Way and even the Northern Lights.

Christiaan says he has always been in awe of how the light and shadows interact so high up in the sky.

The 747 cargo pilot always ensures he has his camera onboard so he s able to share the amazing natural views he witnesses from the sky.

Mr van Heijst, of the Netherlands, has shared this fascinating set of images, taken over the past eight years of his career.

The pilot said was urged to share his photos from the first day of his career.

"Light is behaving in a completely different way compared to what we see on the surface of the earth and this, combined with the unique perspective we pilots have from the cockpit, was just the perfect playground for my photography," said Mr van Heijst.

"Very often, I m just the only person to see that view from that perspective and I simply felt the urge to capture this beauty and share with the world."

We are publishing astonishing pictures which were taken over the past eight years.
