(Dunya News) – Owing to a seven-year long civil war, thousands of homeless Syrians have been left deprived of food in refugee camps in Turkey where while Pakistani welfare organisations have been working for these refugees, a shortage of funds has hurt their operations.

Thousands of Syrians have been forced to flee to neighbouring countries due to the ongoing war in Syria rendering 6.5 million families homeless and countless children orphan.

In the Turkish city of Kilis near the border of Syria, settlements of refugees have formed a city of their own. Provision of food has become one of the biggest challenges for these refugees.

A Pakistani welfare organisation, Khubaib Foundation, in collaboration with an international humanitarian organisation – IHH has formed a bakery that is providing bread to these refugees.

While the bakery has the capacity to produce 180, 000 breads every day, it has limited its produce to 100, 000 owing to a shortage of funds. An official of the Khubaib Foundation says while the understand that the amount they produce is not sufficient for 4 million people, more concerted efforts, including aid, were needed to help these refugees.

According to Pakistanis in Kilis, the refugee situation is far worse than is being projected on the media.
