(Web Desk) - Three kilometres to the south of Medina, is the place where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions first rested during their immigration from Makkah to Medina. Here is present the Quba Mosque, which was the first mosque in the history of Islam.

During the migration from Mecca to Medina, while the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions rested at Quba, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) laid the foundation of the mosque, and himself took part in the construction of this mosque with his companions.

The Quba Mosque is the second largest and prestigious mosque after the Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina. It holds great significance as it was the first mosque to be built in Islamic history. This mosque has been mentioned in the Quran, in verse 108 of Surah Tawbah. A sign in Quba Mosque:

According to Hadith traditions, the one who offers two rakat nafal prayers in the Quba Mosque earns reward equal to one Umrah.

In the courtyard of the mosque, there is one praying hall for worshippers. One portion of the mosque is reserved for women. There are seven major entrances while there are 12 small entrances to the mosque.

Over the years, the mosque has undergone numerous renovation and expansion projects. In 1984, Shah fahad bin Abdul Aziz reconstructed the mosque but retained the old architecture, especially the white domes.
