WEB DESK (Dunya News) – As Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims victory in the referendum, the world leaders are also greeting the Turkish president on Sunday s historic referendum.

The unofficial results revealed the Yes camp on 51.41 percent while the No had 48.59 percent.

It was Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev who first called Erdogan and congratulated him on referendum win.

Ilham professed that the result demonstrated the support of Turkish people for Erdogan s policy.

In a letter letter addressed to Erdogan soon after the phone call, Ilham Aliyev was of the opinion that the outcome would raise Turkey’s status on the global stage.

"Certainly, this referendum will mark the beginning of a new stage in the history of your brotherly country and reinforce the international role and standing of a stable and powerful Turkey," Ilham expressed.

Meanwhile, sources also revealed that Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also extend their felicitations to Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The diplomatic sources revealed that the leaders from Hungary, Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Kenya congratulated the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in telephone calls.

In a special message of congratulations, Vice President of Iraq, Osama al-Nujaifi also expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the Turkish president.

"Mr. President, I am glad to congratulate you and friendly Turkish nation on the referendum aimed at constitutional change," he said.
