Summary Witold said he had been assured of support by San Escobar; problem is there's no such country
LAHORE: (Web Desk, AP) – Poland Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski on Tuesday told the reporters that he had been assured of support by San Escobar for Polish bid to gain a seat at United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The problem however is that there’s no such country on Earth.
The Polish minister was in United States this week to lobby for a seat in UNSC for 2018-19. However, he told the reporters that he had been assured of support by San Escobar. He was mocked on Twitter and elsewhere for this blunder since there’s no such country.

He said that he had had meetings with the representatives of some 20 Caribbean countries. He said that it was for the first time Poland was doing diplomacy at this level as he met foreign ministers of countries like ‘Belize or San Escobar’.
Witold later explained that he was tired and had a slip of tongue due to the fatigue. He said that he had Saint Kitts and Nevis, a two-island Caribbean country known in Spanish as San Cristobal y Nieves.
