Indian couple forges image to claim Everest summit

Summary A fellow climber from Bangalore came forward with the accusation in July

KATHMANDU (Web Desk) – Nepalese tourism department has slapped two Indian police constables with ten years mountaineering ban each for doctoring images claiming to have summited Mount Everest.

As reported by BBC, an Indian couple, Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod, both in-serving police constables in western city of Pune forged images of their attempt and denied any doubts that followed in May.

However, in July, another climber from Bangalore city, Satyarup Sidhantha came forward with his accusation alleging fellow Indian mountaineers of forging his pictures.

Tourism department of Nepal that relies heavily on Everest aspirants for country’s revenue had certified police constables’ summit but reversed the decision after an investigation concluded on August 29 dismissing couple’s false claims.

Company concerned that arranged the venture for the couple claimed after suspicion rose that its clients were right.

Over 450 people including more than 250 foreigners attempted to summit Everest during the last spring season.

This spring season followed two consecutive years of poor weather which was made worse by earthquake in Nepal in 2015 that prompted department to abandon al Everest attempts.
