NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iraq have yet again become tensed as Iraq has demanded Saudi Arabia to replace its ambassador at once.

Iraqi foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmad Jamal while giving an interview to an American news organisation stated that the country’s government had formally forwarded an application to Saudi Arabia stating that there were threats of Shia-Sunni conflicts emerging in the country as a result of Saudi ambassador to Iraq Samar Al-Shaban’s involvement in certain activities thus demanding his immediate replacement.

The spokesperson said that the Saudi ambassador made certain remarks regarding Iran’s involvement in the country’s affairs which were in contrast with the facts, causing outrage amongst the people of Iraq and forcing them to demand the Saudi ambassador’s replacement. He further added that no one shall be allowed to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.

Dr Azam Akhwand of the Columbia University while conversing with Dunya News  North America correspondent Nadeem Manzoor Sulehri stated that Saudi Arabia shall call its ambassador in Iraq back to the country keeping in view the current situation of the region. He added that if Saudi Arabia refuses to replace its ambassador then Iraq shall include Al-Shaban’s name in the blacklist and will force him to leave the country.

International media organisations state that Al-Shaban was against the Iranian regime for quite some time whereas attempts to murder him were also made in 2011 by Iran but the plan eventually failed by the US intelligence agencies.
