SRINAGAR (Web Desk) - Curfew and others restrictions intensified and continued to paralyze the routine life in India-held Kashmir for the 35th consecutive day, Friday, to prevent people from holding demonstrations against civilian killings by Indian forces during the past over a month.
The puppet administration has also sealed Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and other big mosques and khanqahs to stop people from offering Juma prayers and taking out rallies.
Call for holding of the demonstrations has been given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, and Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik to register protest against the killing of innocent people by Indian forces during the ongoing Kashmir Intifada.
Indian police detained Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday soon after they left their residences at Hyderpora and Nigeen to lead the march towards Mazar-e-Shuhada at Eidgah to pay homage to prominent martyred leader, Sheikh Aziz, and other martyrs of 2008 and 2010 uprisings.
Syed Ali Gilani was lodged at Humhama police station while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at Nigeen Police Station. APHC leader Abdul Ahad Parra and Masroor Abbas Ansari were also arrested. Police while extending its arrest spree detained Jamaat-e-Islami spokesman, advocate Zahid Ali. He was detained at Nowgam police station.
The authorities had sealed all roads leading to Eidgah to prevent people from marching towards the martyrs’ graveyard. Call for the march was part of the joint protest calendar given by the Hurriyet leadership.
Meanwhile, APHC Chairman Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik jointly called for a referendum march towards Lal Chowk, Srinagar, on Saturday and Sunday. This was announced by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while talking to media persons before his arrest.
On the other hand, Kashmiris living across the Line of Control and in different cities of Europe staged demonstrations against the civilian killings at the hands of Indian armed forces in the ongoing Intifada in Kashmir. One such demonstration was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front outside European Union Parliament in Brussels. The demonstrators asked India to stop the genocide of the Kashmiri people.
