Libyan aid ship for Gaza will reach Egypt today

A Libyan ship carrying aid for Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip said on Tuesday it would sail to Egypt instead, after being warned away by the Israeli navy.An Egyptian official said that the Moldovan-flagged Amalthea, renamed Hope by activists, got permission to sail to El Arish port, where authorities planned to offload its declared cargo of 2,000 tonnes of food and medicine and transfer it by land to Gaza. Six weeks after it drew world outcry by killing nine Turks in the botched boarding of another ship that tried to reach the Hamas-ruled Palestinian territory, Israel had vowed to enforce its naval blockade by turning away or seizing the Amalthea.
