LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Ramazan has become the third largest festival of the United Kingdom in terms of profits for the stores after Christmas and Easter. The UK markets have seen a boot worth 100 million pounds in their profits during the holy month of Ramazan as more than 300 million Muslims break fast in the evenings of Ramazan.

According to Morrisons, their sale of rice will be around 2m tons and Tesco believes it will see a boom worth 30 million pounds during this month while the largest chain of supermarkets in the UK, Sainsbury’s, says that the festival is gaining in importance every year as a major profit-making month during the year.

In fact Sainsbury’s says that it is running a promotional event for Ramazan which will take place on its 270 stores across the country.

On the other hand, TESCO is running such campaigns in 300 of its store across the UK. Tesco spokesperson told that demand for flour, oil and dates increases by 70% during the month of Ramazan.

Meanwhile, Morrisons told that its sales of Amira rice increases by 40% during this month and around 80,000 boxes of dates are sold during Ramazan.

Apart from the regular goodwill gestures, supermarkets across the UK are also welcoming the holy month of Muslims since it gives their sales a massive boost.

George Scott, of retail consultancy Conlumino, was of the view that the Muslim migration into the UK has made the population diverse and it thus helps the supermarkets to boost their profits by catering to the needs and demands of a multicultural society.
