LAHORE (Web Desk) – The government of India has filed a case against Nestle India with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) after food inspectors of Uttar Pradesh found high amount of lead and mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) in Maggi noodles.

The controversy has enveloped big names of the Hindi film industry including Amitabh Bachan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta for being the brand ambassadors of the product. Dixit has officially received a notice by the authorities however, Bachan has denied recieving any notice.

However, the Big B held a press conference to address the issue. He said that he always puts in a clause in his contracts with the conglomerates which demands legal protection from the company in case of controversies.

Union food minister said that all the endorsers are liable for action under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Moreover, cable television network could also be convicted for misleading advertisements, he added.

The Indian capital announced a 15-day ban on sale of the product on May 3 and ordered the giant to recall its stocks.

The irked consumers including children staged a protest and crushed hundreds of Maggi noodles packs on road.

It is not the first time for Nestle to have lost share value drastically in few days. Nestle has seen such incidents in the past when at one time a consumer reported mice infestation in a Cadbury’s Dairymilk chocolate bar that he had purchased. However, Nestle India emerged solid out of the controversy with effective Public Relations (PR) and marketing. One of the immediate steps Nestle took then included setting up a media desk in the building that answered calls from all over the country from thousands of households who were loyal customers.

If one strictly talks about business, Maggi noodles alone makes up more than 20 percent of Nestle’s annual sales in India!

NDTV published a statement from the office that said:

"We wish to state that we have till now not received any orders from any state/Centre FDA authorities to recall Maggi noodle products in the market except an order from the Uttar Pradesh FDA dated 30.04.2015 asking us to recall a batch of Maggi noodles manufactured in February, 2014 which had already reached the  Best Before date  in November, 2014. We are co-operating with the authorities who are conducting tests and awaiting their results," the company added.
