LETPADAN (AFP) - Scores of Myanmar protesters were arrested Tuesday in a violent crackdown by baton-wielding police on a student rally pressing for education reform, activists and authorities said.

"We estimate about 100 people including students and civilians were arrested" after in central town of Letpadan, one student activist in Yangon told AFP on condition of anonymity, while a police source put the number of detained at around 70.
