Summary At least 24 people died Sunday when two buses collided near the Zimbabwean capital Harare.
HARARE (AFP) - At least 24 people died Sunday when two buses collided near the Zimbabwean capital Harare, police said.
"I can confirm that 24 people died following an accident which occurred this afternoon," police spokesman Paul Nyathi told AFP.
State television said at least 46 others were injured after the two buses, travelling in opposite directions, sideswiped about 30 kilometres northeast of Harare.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation said witnesses blamed the accident on speeding by both drivers.
Road accidents are common in Zimbabwe, where highways are riddled with potholes due to years of neglect.
