CASABLANCA (AFP) - A Turkish Airlines plane bound for Brazil was forced to make an emergency landing in Morocco on Sunday following a "bomb scare", an airport official said.

The plane landed at Casablanca Airport after taking off from Istanbul following the discovery of a suspicious mobile telephone, the official told AFP.

A security check was carried out at the airport before the plane -- an Airbus A340 with 229 passengers on board -- was allowed to continue on its journey to Sao Paolo.
