Summary House Republicans are seeking billions of dollars in cuts to U.S. foreign operations.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The move that will surely spark opposition from the White House and the Democratic-led Senate.
The House Appropriations Committee s bill for next year gives full funding to embassy security. That is to prevent a repeat of last year s deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya. And the bill maintains security money for Israel and Jordan.
But it cuts heavily in other places, taking spending down to $34.1 billion. That s $8 billion lower than last year. The bill would gut climate change and clean technology efforts and end payments to some U.N. and international agencies.
Aid would be conditional for Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan and the Palestinians.
