Summary Rasmussen won a fifth and final year at the helm of the NATO, the alliance said.

NATO allies agreed on Wednesdayto extend Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussens term as headof the organisation by a year to the end of July 2014, thealliance said.The extension means Rasmussen will be in office until a fewmonths before the planned end of NATO combat operations inAfghanistan at the end of 2014.NATO chiefs are traditionally appointed for a four-year termwith the possibility of extending by a year. The decision toextend Rasmussens term was taken by NATO ambassadors at ameeting on Wednesday.
