(Web Desk) - A 10-month-old kitten in the United States has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the joint world record holder for the highest number of toes on a cat, with an impressive 28 toes.

The kitten, named Toby, belongs to the Henderson family in the U.S. state of Michigan. A veterinarian confirmed that Toby was born with 28 toes, matching the record previously set in 2002 by a Canadian cat named Jake.

Most domestic cats have 18 toes—five on each front paw and four on each back paw. Cats born with extra toes are known as polydactyl cats, a naturally occurring genetic trait.

Toby's owner, Delaney Henderson, said she was amazed when she first saw the kitten's paws. She expected Toby to have a few extra "thumbs," but was surprised by the unusually large number of toes.

She added that Toby's adorable face and constant purring won her over immediately, making her feel as though the kitten was meant to be part of her family.

Despite having extra toes, Toby is perfectly healthy and experiences no difficulty walking or playing, according to his owners. The only additional care he requires is regular nail trimming, as he has 30 claws, making grooming slightly more demanding than for an average cat. Otherwise, Toby lives the life of a normal, healthy feline.
