Donkeys tie the knot in India on Valentine's Day

(Web Desk) - In a heartwarming and unusual Valentine’s Day celebration, a pair of donkeys were married in a public ceremony in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru.

The event drew a crowd of curious onlookers eager to witness the quirky celebration.

Organisers decorated the donkeys with garlands and traditional ornaments. Music played as participants offered fruits and flowers, creating a festive atmosphere.

A local man ceremonially tied knots around the donkeys’ necks, symbolising their union.

Local leader Vatal Nagaraj placed a garland around the animals and posed for photographs. In a unique twist, he draped a traditional saree over the female donkey and tied an auspicious pendant around her neck, blending cultural rituals with the lighthearted celebration.

The event comes amid growing Valentine’s Day celebrations in India, particularly in urban areas. Despite protests from some conservative Hindu groups, who argue the day conflicts with Indian traditions, retailers and restaurants are increasingly promoting Valentine’s Day with cards, balloons, and romantic dining deals.
