An Arab Israeli man accused of locking his daughter in his bathroom for nine years has been handed over to Israeli authorities, a Palestinian security official said on Monday.We arrested on Thursday an Arab Israeli man who secretly held his daughter in the bathroom of his home in Qalqilya, in the north of the West Bank, General Adnan Damir of the Palestinian Authority security forces said.We interrogated the suspect and it emerged that he had chosen to keep his own daughter in these conditions for fear of her becoming a sexual assault victim, said the general.The young woman, who is now in her 20s, was initially handed over to the Palestinian social services, Damir added.She was then reunited with her mother, a Palestinian living in the West Bank who divorced the father years ago, he said.Micky Rosenfeld, an Israeli police spokesman, confirmed the suspects transfer to Israel and added the 39-year-old Arab Israeli would be held in temporary detention until Wednesday.We have also apprehended his new companion in Israel who is suspected of having some responsibility in the affair, said Rosenfeld.Arab Israelis are the descendants of some 160,000 Palestinians who remained on their land in Israel after the countrys creation in 1948.
