Devotees walk on hot embers to please Lord Ayyappa

Devotees walked on hot embers in order to appease Lord Ayyappa and seek his blessings.

The devotees in Indias western Gujarat state were seen walking bare feet over the bed of hot embers, chanting religious hymns and singing devotional songs.Those who wear this mala (religious beaded necklace) do not fear by walking over the bed of hot embers. Anybody whether it is a child or a man, everyone can walk over it. We do not get injured. It gives a feeling as if we are walking over the flowers, a devotee Bhawani Swami said.Prior to walk the devotees had to wear a religious necklace with an aim to walk over the hot ember without fear. The devotees seek the blessings of Lord Ayyapa as they believe that walking over the hot ember would please him and they would prosper and remain happy.Whosoever, either big or small, wears the religious necklace (a religious necklace made of beads) does not feel scared. We have started this sic) ritual and it gives us a feel as if we are walking over the flowers, said another devotee Lakshmi Iyer.The main shrine of Lord Ayyappa is situated at Sabarimala in Indias southern Kerala state.A large number of people across the world walk on the hot ember to seek the blessings of their god. On certain occasions, the devotees tend to burn their feet and get injured as well.
