Summary Thousands of zombies come back from the dead to take part in annual march through Mexico City.
Mexico City was overrun by zombies as thousands of ghouls and other creatures of the living dead took part in the megalopoliss fifth Zombie Walk.Stopping traffic and closing roads, participants pulled out all the stops with scary make-up, gushing blood and ghoulish props as they marched towards the capitals heritage-listed historic downtown. Not all blood and guts, the walking dead also used the event to collect canned goods in a food drive ahead of the Christmas season and let off steam from the stresses of daily life.“We have a social and political situation and so this is a way to liberate (ourselves) from stress and pressure in our country. I think this is the success of the Zombie Walk,” said marcher Jesus Escalona. With a string of successful television shows and movies about the walking dead, zombies have never been more popular.“Being a zombie is more than just being dead, in recent years they (zombies) have become more popular and this is great. I think this is not a big concern today, its all about being free no matter what others say,” said another participant. The thousands of zombies paraded around with hopes of setting the world record for most zombies on the move at one time. “We are here to infect everyone in Mexico City and to break the Guinness record,” said Zombie Walk organiser, Chumoy.
