Vikram Pandey of Lucknow transformed his balcony into a mini tomato garden
LUCKNOW (Web Desk) - In a remarkable feat of urban farming, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow successfully cultivated over two and a half quintals (250 kilograms) of tomatoes on his rooftop. Vikram Pandey, a gardening enthusiast, undertook the challenge of rooftop gardening despite limited space.
With the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes across the country causing distress to many, Pandey embarked on an innovative venture to address the issue at a local level. Despite initial concerns about limited space, he transformed his balcony into a mini tomato garden, utilizing approximately 600 square feet.
Pandey strategically planted nearly 50 to 60 tomato saplings, carefully tending to each one throughout their growth cycle. His efforts paid off, resulting in an abundant harvest that even surprised his neighbors.
Pandey not only managed to grow an impressive quantity of tomatoes but also extended his green-thumb expertise to other plants. Lemon trees, chabutra musummi, and various other vegetables now flourish on his rooftop. His tomato yield was so substantial that he ended up producing more than two and a half quintals of the fruit, totaling approximately 250 kilograms.
Recognising the potential impact of his efforts, Pandey chose to share the bounty with his community. He generously distributed the surplus tomatoes among his neighbors, a gesture that drew praise and gratitude from those around him. As his garden flourished, Pandey's balcony and rooftop transformed into a thriving oasis, offering a glimmer of hope for urban dwellers seeking sustainable solutions.
