Summary The wheelchair has given them a new way to live and play and just be a dog.

In India’s southern Chennai city, there live a few lucky and very well-loved dogs. Sam, a ten-year old Pomeranian, and Julie a one-year old mixed breed, both lost use of their hind legs and their owners, refusing to give up on them, found a way to make lemons from lemonade in their own special way.Sam’s owner bought a makeshift wheelchair that had been used by another dog. The chair was a life-saver, as it acted as Sam’s hind legs and greatly aided the animal’s mobility. Without the chair, the dog limped and walked with great difficulty. Using the chair, Sam now has a new and very happy lease on life.John Peter who is Julie’s owner and a mechanic by profession, is a great animal lover and he couldn’t bear to see his beloved pet suffer. After eight months of treatment, the veterinarian could not cure the crippled hind legs and John used his own abilities to develop a way the dog could move around. Thus, after seven failed efforts and the help of a carpenter, was born the “special wheelchair” for Julie. For both animals, the wheelchair has given them a new way to live and play and just be a dog. Their spirits as well as their hind legs have been lifted by this special invention created out of love and necessity. The success of Peter’s innovative chair for his own pet has inspired him to help other pets and he seeks government subsidy from the AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India) in doing exactly that.
