Princess Catherine and Prince William dolls launched in London

Dunya News

Princess Catherine and Prince William wedding dolls have been launched at London's toy shop Hamleys.

New Prince William and Princess Catherine wedding dolls were unveiled at Londons famous toy shop, Hamleys, on Thursday. The dolls, made by British firm Arklu, have William dressed in his scarlet Irish Guards colonel uniform, while his wife Catherine is in her white wedding dress. Some of the most respected designers in the business were involved in creating the dolls. One such designer is Babette Wasserman who designed the ring, modelled on the one worn by Catherine, which was Princess Dianas.Ms Wasserman said: I had a look at the original ring, the Lady Diana ring, and I thought about how I could change it and make it more of a Babette Wasserman design. So I came up with using an amethyst stone instead of the orginal sapphire.Obviously the dolls one is plastic, but our real version is using a crystal amethyst. And so I wanted to keep it the same theme but make it more of a modern version of the ring that it was.So much attention to detail has been made on designing the dolls that the celebrity make-up artist Louise Constad was also asked to help.Ms Constad said: I was delighted to be asked because Im a collector of dolls, so this is one of my dreams come true. Ive worked on award winning films, I do really big pop stars (like) Tina Turner, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Helena Bonham Carter. I work on all those stars, but my true love is the doll. So to actually have the chance to design the make-up for the dolls is fantastic because dolls dont answer back. The new dolls follow the success of the Princess Catherine engagement doll, which was launched at the beginning of the year. The boxed set of both dolls costs £100, $160 or 110 euros, while the Catherine doll by itself costs £50, $80 or 55 euros. The William doll is not sold separately. A £1 donation goes to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution for every doll sold.
