PPE clad COVID positive groom gets wedding go-ahead in India
(Reuters) - A groom in India who tested positive for coronavirus a few days before his wedding was allowed to tie the knot on Monday (April 26) on the condition he would wear full protective overalls.
The bride, groom and all attendees had to swap their wedding regalia for full Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), while the nuptial rituals were performed in the central Indian town of Ratlam.
Block officer Naveen Garg said the groom had tested positive on April 19th and authorities had initially attempted stop the ceremony, but after repeated requests from the couple and agreement on precautions the wedding was given the go-ahead.
Over the past 24 hours, India recorded 323,144 new cases, slightly below a worldwide peak of 352,991 reached on Monday with overrun hospitals turning away patients due to a shortage of beds and oxygen supplies.
