33-stone gorilla undergoes CT scan in South Africa

(Web Desk) – 34-year-old gorilla Makokou underwent a CT scan, a medical procedure usually reserved for humans, after unusual growths found in its nose.

The gorilla weighing 210 kgs was airlifted more than 40 miles (64km) to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital in Pretoria with the help of five people.

Zoo staff, who first became concerned for his health in May, decided he needed a scan after extensive tests revealed the primate had polyps in his nasal passages.
