(REUTERS) - Bearded men twirled, snipped and combed their facial hair to perfection for the French Beard Championship in Paris on Saturday (June 22).

Now in its third edition, the contest features 86 beard artists, preselected from a roster of 301 participants from across France, all vying to snag one of the top awards in six style categories.

Categories include natural beards of either less or more than 20 centimetres, but also more formal styles such as the wider and lusher Garibaldi and the more pointed Verdi.

Those with a more specific vision could also compete in the freestyle category, with some decorating their beards with accessories.

Participant Denis-Pierre Cariou, the winner of the tournament s first edition in 2017, said the event allows beard aficionados to spend time together and have fun with their hirsute allies.

This year, beard artist Prathas Maheswaradas, whose beard measures 24 cm, was awarded "Best in Show," the competition s highest prize.
