A ghost fair is held at a Hindu temple every year during the Hindu fasting period of Navratra in Indias eastern Jharkhand state. The fair is held annually during Navratra at the temple of goddess Bhagwati at Haidar Nagar town in the states Palamu district. This fair is especially known for curing people who are said to be possessed by ghosts and evil spirits.A priest at the temple said that millions of people turn over to the temple at this time of the year to get their wishes fulfilled and have their bodies cleansed of evil spirits. “The goddess Bhagwati fulfills every sort of wish and solves every problem. Be it diseases, ghosts, evil spirits or any form of evils. Most devotees come here wishing for children. Bhagwati fulfills their every wish. Nobody leaves this place disheartened,” said Tyagi Baba, a priest.Apart from the devotees, the fair is also attended by many witch doctors from different parts of India who take part in various ghost-cleansing rituals. Devotees believe that the mother goddess always fulfills their wishes and this is the only place where evil spirits can be driven away.This fair is held in the Hindu holy period of Navratra where devotees fast for a period of nine days in honour of the Hindu goddess Durga.
