Incredible doll art: beautiful or just creepy?
Zajkov's dolls are meticulously hand-sculpted and not available to order.
(Web Desk) - Russian artist Michael Zajkov is taking the internet by storm after posting a video showing how he makes his handcrafted dolls which are unbelievably realistic.
Using polymer clay for modeling, German glass for eyes and French mohair wigs for hair, Zajkov’s dolls are meticulously hand-sculpted and not available to order.
Graduating from Kuban State University where the Moscow based artist studied sculpting, Zajkov self-taught himself the art while working at a puppet theatre. He had his first major breakthrough in 2013 when he participated in the Arts Dolls Expo in Moscow. Collectors went wild for his dolls. Since then, his popularity has continued to grow exponentially.
With 582,000 followers on Instagram, Majkov posts pictures of his dolls and admits that they are so realistic that fans often find them ‘creepy’. He claims to be inspired by doll makers Laura Scattolini from Italy and Anne Mitrani from France.
Majkov enjoys seeing people’s reactions when they see his dolls for the first time.
