Woman gives birth to five babies in Peshawar

Dunya News

The mother delivered five babies by caesarean section.

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) - A 28-year-old woman gave birth to quintuplets, four boys and a girl, at the Khyber Teaching Hospital in Peshawar, Dunya News reported on Saturday.

The woman identified as Aasia from Jamrud area was shifted to the hospital in critical condition on March 24 where she delivered five babies by caesarean section.

According to hospital staff, one of the baby boy could survive while other four babies have been placed at an intensive care unit (ICU).

Gul Shah, father of the babies, is a polio worker. He expressed joy on the occasion and thanked Allah for these blessings.

Experts say that the number of multiple births had increased quite considerably in Pakistan like elsewhere in the world. They attribute the increase mainly to the impact of fertility treatments, such as in vitro fertilisation.

The birth of quintuplets happens rarely but when it does, in countries like Pakistan where health facilities are not up to the standard, their survival in the initial days is often quite difficult.
