GERMANY (Web Desk) - More than 2000 people in Germany’s Waldshut-Tiengen city got dressed as the famous cartoon character smurfs in a bid to make a world record.

The massive crowd just fell short of 361 people with 2,149 smurfs present in the German arena.

Wales has currently the record of gathering the largest number of people dressed as smurfs.

Event organiser Michael Bernatek said: "The excitement was very big. The whole event took more than a year of preparation.

We got excited feedback via Facebook and that got us worried if it was going to work or not."

"In the end it was only 2,149 smurfs and unfortunately it narrowly wasn t enough. But we are very proud of the region here and of the people who mobilised themselves to come here. And as you can see the atmosphere is great," he added.
