LONDON (Web Desk) - Pupils were evacuated from a primary school after a nine-year-old boy brought a military shell to school for a show-and-tell.

Parents claim that another child was then told to pick up the shell and carry it to safety on the school field.

The Army Bomb Disposal team was called and all 250 children at St Margaret s Church of England Primary School, Bowers Gifford, Basildon, Essex, were sent home.

One boy at the school, Harvey Harris, 10, claimed he and another child were asked to carry the 20cm shell to the school field and leave it there.

"A boy brought it in to show the class but no-one really knew what it was and the teachers didn t know what it was either," he said.

"More teachers came to look at it before another boy and I were asked to carry it outside and leave it in the field."
