WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it has not ruled out aircraft age or maintenance-related issues in its investigation into an incident in which a passenger was partially sucked out of a broken window on a Boeing 737 NG.
The statement contradicted comments made by Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary, who said earlier this week that preliminary findings indicated the damage was caused by a foreign object and was unrelated to the aircraft's age or maintenance condition.
In a letter to O'Leary, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said the agency had made no such determination and added that the CEO's remarks violated the board's rules governing public disclosure by parties involved in an active investigation.
Ryanair did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
