More than 12,000 Facebook users reported issues and over 7,000 Instagram users reported mishaps, according to Downdetector.com.
Facebook's online chat platform Messenger has received complaints from users.
By combining status information from many sources including user-submitted problems on its platform Downdetector.com keeps track of outages.
