(Reuters) - T-Mobile announced that it was looking into a data breach affecting 37 million postpaid and prepaid accounts and that it anticipated facing large charges as a result of the incident.
The US telecom provider said that it discovered malicious activity on January 5 and stopped it in a day and that no sensitive data including banking information was stolen. Nevertheless some fundamental client data was gathered including name, billing address, email and phone number.
There is presently no proof that the bad actor was able to penetrate or damage our systems or our network, the company said, adding that it has started alerting affected customers.
T-Mobile has over 110 million subscribers making it the third-largest wireless carrier in the United States.
