Event to feature race car demonstration drives anticipated to draw more than 300,000 visitors, organ

TOKYO (Web Desk) - Around 800 race and custom vehicles were on exhibit at an auto expo outside of Tokyo on Saturday by automakers and auto component suppliers from Japan and beyond.

Toyota Motor Corporation unveiled the GR Yaris sport compact car at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2020, which was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture and was open to the public for two days.

This vehicle was developed using Toyota Motor Corporation s extensive motor sport experience including its participation in the World Rally Championship.

A total of 438 automakers and car part suppliers showcased their distinctive goods Including Mazda Motor Corporation, Honda Motor Corporation, Volvo Cars Japan and Toyota.

The GR Yaris  four-wheel drive special edition with a 1.6-liter turbo engine is being produced in a facility in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, where company’s headquarters is based. Toyota is the largest Japanese carmaker by sales volume.

Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, told reporters, "I m happy we ve created all components of the sport-type car by ourselves, unlike our 86 and Supra sport vehicle models which were co-developed with another automaker."

Nissan Motor Company displayed limited versions of the GT-R and Fairlady Z sports vehicles while Subaru Corporation showed a sportier version of the Levorg station wagon anticipated for introduction in the second half of the year.

According to organizers the event will also feature race car demonstration drives within the convention center s exhibition hall.

The car show, which officially opened to the media on Friday, is anticipated to draw more than 300,000 visitors.
