MediaTek teams up with Intel to unveil the T700, its first 5G laptop chips

(Web Desk) - Intel was initially in the race to manufacture 5G chips but it abandoned that dream as a result of the dominance of Qualcomm. Instead, the company entered into a partnership with MediaTek to supply 5G modems for use on its laptop processors

The partnership has yielded its first fruit and it is the T700 5G modem which according to Engadget has now been announced. The 5G modem is MediaTek’s first 5G product for laptops and it will find its way into the next-generation Intel-powered laptops.

The chip features support for Sub-6 5G and standalone 5G calls which are not dependent on the existing LTE network. In addition, MediaTek says it comes with support for non-standalone Sub-6 5G networks and is “highly power-efficient”. That means you won’t have to bother about battery life when surfing the internet on 5G or making calls.

There are already laptops wit 5G connectivity support but most of the models in the market are powered by Qualcomm’s 5G modems. This new MediaTek T700 5G will likely bring down the prices of 5G laptops packing the modem since MediaTek ‘s prices are less than Qualcomm’s. We expect to see it on laptops pretty soon.
