First hydrogen-powered engine by Indian inventor gets nod from Japan

The cost-effective engine can be used for various automobiles including two, three, and four wheeler apart from ships.
COIMBATORE (Reuters) - An automobile mechanical engineer based in India s southern Coimbatore city has developed the first of its kind, supersonic hydrogen fuel-powered high efficiency automobile engine, in the hopes of reducing vehicular pollution in the country.
Inventor of the new technology, Sounthirajan Kumarasamy said, "We are the first in the world to do this on board Hydrogen generator. Because if you see, there are many who use salt water and other chemicals to do this. But our technology uses thermal energy to do it."
The technology which took Kumarasamy and his colleagues ten years to perfect has now received three patents and a nod from the Japanese government, where the engine will be rolled out for commercial activities in a few days.
"Since there is air pollution we have developed this Hydrogen fuel-powered higher efficiency engine. This engine is a substitute to petrol and diesel. In this engine if you see, we only need to provide distilled water. We have an inbuilt technology that splits hydrogen and oxygen from distilled water and converts it into fuel", said the inventor on the 99.99% pollution-free technology.
The cost-effective engine can be used for various automobiles including two, three, and four wheeler apart from ships.
Kumaraswamy alleged that he was unable to introduce the technology in his home country because of various obstacles and the unresponsive attitude from officials.
