(Web Desk) – Researchers have attempted to study reasons for why taxicabs are usually yellow and they have found one reasonable explanation for it.

Singapore-based researchers studied yellow and blue cabs for a period of three months.

A total of 16,000 cars were tracked for 90 days and following were the findings:

  1. During the daytime, yellow cabs were five percent less likely to be involved in an accident than blue taxis.

  2. During the nighttime, yellow cabs were found to be 19 percent less likely to crash with another car.

The researchers have stated that probably, the colour; yellow, is easily visible under street lights leading to lesser vulnerability to accidents as compared to blue cabs.

The experiment mainly studied the rear-hits; hitting a car from the rear was counted as an accident by the researchers.
