Summary Indonesia's first bird flu death occurred in 2005.
JAKARTA (AP) - A 31-year-old Indonesian woman has died from bird flu, bringing the death toll to 163 in the country hardest-hit by the deadly virus.
A statement Monday on the Health Ministry s website says the housewife from Bekasi Timur, a West Java district just east of the capital, Jakarta, died last week at a private hospital, five days after being treated for the H5N1 bird flu virus.
An investigation by the ministry found that the woman, who first developed symptoms of fever and nausea on Nov. 1, had possible contact with birds or poultry around her house.
Bird flu typically flares up during the winter months in affected countries, with increases in poultry outbreaks and human cases.
