FAISALABAD (Online) - University of Agriculture Faisalabad will set up a forest park comprising 60 acre at its Proka Chukaira Farm, with lake view in a bid to promoting forest net and to combat climate changes.
This was said by the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan on Sunday, while opening of plantation drive .On the occasion VC of Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Dr. Rai Niaz was also present on the occasion.
Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that forest net in the country was the only three percent which is very low as compared to the international standards of 25 percent. He called for ending the deforestation and to aware the masses about the importance of forestry.
He told the meeting that under the campaign, the university will have more 25,000 plants.
He said that emission of the heavy smoke from factories and decrease in the forest are aggravating the climate changes issue.
He said that integrated biogas model, consisting of farming and energy production, has become functional at the campus. It will benefit to the industry and the people as an alternate way to cope with the power shortage.
Prof Dr Rai Niaz said that the arid areas of the country were blessed with ideal condition for the plantations.
He stressed the need to map out a comprehensive plan to end deforestation to maintain the glory of the areas.
He pointed out that under the joint venture of UAF and PMASAAU, more tangible researches would be produced and to be transferred to the community to increase agrarian productivity.
