DHAKA (Dunya News) - Bangladesh has appointed left-arm spinner Nahida Akter as the new captain of its women’s T20 International team.

Nahida will replace Nigar Sultana, who decided to step down from the role. Nahida will lead the team for one year.

Nigar captained Bangladesh in 82 T20 International matches, securing 32 victories during her tenure. However, she stepped down following disappointing results in the Asia Cup and Asian Games.

Middle-order batter Shobhana has been appointed vice-captain. She recently made headlines by scoring a historic century in a One-Day International against Australia.

The 25-year-old Nahida made her international debut in September 2015. She is Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in women’s T20 International cricket.

She has taken 132 wickets at an average of 17.38, with her best bowling figures being five wickets for eight runs. She has also claimed 81 wickets in One-Day Internationals.
