England would start off the second day of the match at Lords with 364/6. Strauss and Alastair Cook seized the initiative for England for the first time in this Ashes series by attacking the Australian seamers in the first half of the day and knocking them off their length. Only Ben Hilfenhaus bowled the full length required. Strauss remains not out with an unbeaten 161 runs. England elected to field first after winning the toss with Strauss and Alister Cook (95) scoring a partnership of 196 runs for the first wicket before Cook retuned to pavilion. But Australian bowler brought their team back in the game by taking five more wickets with 168 runs more added in the score board, while Strauss continued his awesome inning in which he smashed 22 boundaries.
