A 17-member Pakistan Under-18 girls hockey team left for China to take part in the Under-18 Girls Asia Cup to be played from July 20-26 in Shanghai. Seven participating teams have been divided into two pools. Pool A comprises of India, China, Sri Lanka and Thailand while Pakistan, South Korea and Japan are in Pool B. Pakistan will play their first pool match against Japan on July 20 and second against South Korea on July 23. Talking to reporters before the departure of the team, former Olympian and team coach Anjum Saeed said that during the one-month camp in Islamabad the players had received good training and he hoped the team would produce good results in the event. Most of the team players are touring abroad for the first time and they will get good international exposure which will help them in the future, he added. Anjum said the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) was taking every measure to develop womens hockey. Efforts are being made to give exposure to young players for a better future of womens hockey in the international arena, he said.
