Summary Afghan boy famed for the plastic bag he wore with Messi's name on it met his icon last night
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Arguably the greatest footballer to have played the game Lionel Messi has fans across the globe. But the Afghan kid who made headlines a few days back with his photos in which he could be seen wearing a plastic bag with Messi written over it, saw his icon last night and just wasn’t ready to let go of him.
Murtaza Ahmadi, 6, had been photographed in January wearing a T-shirt made out of a plastic bag. Last night, Murtaza met Messi just ahead of Barcelona’s game against Al Ahli, and was just not ready to let go of his hero.

Messi met him before the match and the young Afghan fan made it to the ground along with him as the kids held the players’ hands while coming on to the pitch. As the other kids left, Murtaza kept holding on to Messi’s hand and refused to leave him alone.
The die heart fan then went on with the Argentine forward to shake hands with the opposition’s players and then the referees.

He was given the honour of bringing the match ball on to the pitch, which he did of course. But then he ignored the referees escorting him out of the ground and ran back to Messi and hugged him once again. The four-time Ballon D’Or winner hugged him back, laughing along with the star Paraguay striker Luis Suarez.
The referee finally came up to the kid, picked him up in his arms and escorted him outside the ground as the young Afghan smiled looking at the spectators.
The beautiful moments were caught on the camera and would probably help Murtaza make more headlines than he did earlier with his plastic bag Argentine shirt, with Messi 10 written on it. The kid lives in Quetta, Pakistan, now with his family after fleeing his home in Afghanistan.

“I love Messi, he plays well, the shirt was made by my brother and I liked it very much,” he said after being tracked down by the AFP news agency.
“We do not have a football playground near our house, and the only ball I have is punctured.
“I want to be like Messi, when I grow up.”
