Summary Floundering in relegation zone of Turkish top flight, Genclerbirligi fired fifth manager this season

ANKARA: (AFP) - If fans of Chelsea or Manchester United are stressed by the management turbulence at the top of the Premier League this season, then spare a thought for followers of Turkish Super Lig side Genclerbirligi of Ankara.

Floundering in the relegation zone of the Turkish top flight, Genclerbirligi on Tuesday fired their fifth manager this season, the club said.

Yilmaz Vural lasted just six days in charge of the Turkish capital s side before a defeat at the hands of bottom-placed Eskisehirspor led to his firing by the club s powerful and longstanding chairman Ilhan Cavcav.

Vural s predecessor, Fuat Capa, meanwhile had lasted just a few hours before also being shown the door.

Genclerbirligi had began the 2015/2016 season with Scottish journeyman manager Stuart Baxter in charge, before he was fired after a poor start to the campaign.

The club then employed Turkish coaches Mehmet Ozledik and Mustafa Kaplan.

Turkish football is notorious for the revolving-door nature of its coaching jobs. Turkish media said the outgoing Vural had worked for 25 clubs in a 29-year managerial career.

But the tendency had reached unprecedented heights at Genclerbirligi, where Cavcav according to Turkish media has seen managers come-and-go an astonishing 60 times during his 38-year reign over the club.

Cavcav, 80, has become a controversial figure for the Ankara club faithful who would prefer to see success on the field rather than be dazed by watching the managerial merry-go-round.

At the halfway point in the Turkish season, Genclerbirligi are 16th in the Super Lig with just 13 points.
