Summary Celebration fell foul of NFL guidelines barring the use of the ball as a prop
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey said Wednesday he had been fined after pretending to take a nap in the end zone after scoring a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.
The 24-year-old celebrated his third quarter touchdown in the Rams 24-22 victory by dropping to the ground, using the ball as a pillow and feigning sleep.
However, the celebration fell foul of NFL guidelines barring the use of the ball as a prop, meaning Bailey faced a fine from unamused disciplinary chiefs.
"Ahhhhhh #NFL Fines suck!!!!! I meant no harm by what I did... Smh" Bailey tweeted late Tuesday. "How u sign up for go fund me? Lol this is bogus man!"
Bailey swiftly deleted the tweets from his account.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he had spoken to Bailey about the situation after the game.
"He used the ball as a prop," Fisher said. "It s a foul. It s a 15-yard penalty and you re kicking off from the 15-yard line and that s not part of what we do."
