Kumar Sangakkara scored a classy 219 and Mahela Jayawardene struck 174 as Sri Lanka declared their first innings at 642-4 on day two of the second Test against India on Tuesday. Jayawardene hit 20 boundaries and a six for his 28th test century before being caught by Suresh Raina off spinner Harbhajan Singh. Declaration followed soon after Jayawardenes dismissal. Jayawardenes century was his 10th at the Sinhalese Sports Club and he surpassed Don Bradmans nine centuries at Melbourne Cricket Ground to become the highest century-maker at a single ground, though the Sri Lankan has played 12 matches more at the venue than the Australian all time great. Sehwag returned bowling figures 1-71 while fellow spinners Pragyan Ojha, Harbhajan Singh and seamer Ishant Sharma also picked up a wicket each. Opener Tharanga Paranavitana helped set up Sri Lankas impressive total by making 100 on the first day. Jayawardene followed Tharanga Paranavitana (100) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (219) with a fluent 143 not out to lift the hosts to 587-3 by tea on the second day at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).
